What if global violence was halved by 2030?
Violence is not restricted to certain regions, and it is not only an issue of men killing men. The majority of violence happens outside of conflict, and every country has to address the violence that happens within their own borders.
In addition to the human and development costs, violence carries a tremendous economic cost. In 2022, interpersonal violence cost the world USD 2.6 trillion. Beyond a moral imperative to reduce global violence, stakeholders everywhere have an economic incentive to do so.
The report to be launched captures more than three years of the initiative’s work, drawing on research and best practices from across the globe. The report will feature innovative, proven, and low-cost strategies to prevent and reduce violence, underscoring that halving global violence is in fact an achievable goal.
Please join the Halving Global Violence Task Force, the Center on International Cooperation (CIC) at New York University, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the Small Arms Survey to the launch of the Task Force Flagship Report. The event will start with high-level remarks from the Task Force Co-Chairs, and move to a guided Davos-style panel discussion with members of the Geneva Peace Community and beyond, who helped to shape the report’s groundbreaking findings and recommendations.
